Norfolk, VA - November 15, 2025 – Carlos Clanton was officially declared the Councilman-Elect for Norfolk City Council, Superward 7, following the final count of all provisional ballots and votes. This victory concludes a spirited five-candidate race, highlighting the diversity and dedication of Norfolk’s electorate.
Councilman-Elect Clanton expressed his gratitude to the residents of Superward 7.
"This victory belongs to the people of Norfolk. I am deeply honored by the trust you have placed in me, and I am committed to serving every corner of our community. To everyone who participated in this election, regardless of who you supported, thank you for being part of this democratic process. Now, the real work begins."
Acknowledging the service of current Superward 7 Councilwoman Danica Royster, Clanton shared, "I want to express my sincere appreciation to Councilwoman Danica Royster for her dedication and leadership. Her efforts have strengthened our community, and I am eager to continue building on that foundation to achieve meaningful progress for Norfolk."
Addressing reports of a recount request by one of his opponents, Clanton noted, "I know that Mr. Hawkins has requested a recount. I observed the count today from noon until its completion at 7:25 p.m., and I am confident that the election results will stand. All candidates were offered the same opportunity to observe the election count, ensuring transparency and integrity throughout the process."
Clanton reassured the community that he is ready to lead and will provide more details regarding his transition on Monday. "In the interim, I encourage everyone to stay connected with me as we move from election mode to service mode as the newly elected representative for Superward 7. Together, we will work to address the pressing issues facing our city, including enhancing public safety, expanding affordable housing, driving economic growth, and building environmental resilience."
