Supporting Our ODU Community After Today’s Tragedy

Monarch Strong

As an ODU alumnus and your council member for Superward 7, I am deeply saddened by the heartbreaking events that occurred today at Old Dominion University. As a Monarch myself, I know how close-knit this community is. We mourn the loss of life, and I stand in solidarity with the families, loved ones, and all those impacted at ODU.

The university is offering counseling services at the Broderick Dining Commons and the Student Government Chambers in the Webb Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. The university will remain closed today and tomorrow, with all classes and operations suspended. I encourage anyone impacted to take advantage of these resources.

Authorities have established a tip line at tips.fbi.gov or via ODU and Norfolk Police. The City Administration is in contact with both the university and law enforcement to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods.

In times like these, our strength is in our unity. Let’s support one another and lean on these resources. I will continue working with ODU and city officials to provide any needed updates.
